Rape accused in court

A 28-year-old man appears in the Auckland District Court today charged with a number of offences relating to the March 15 alleged attack on a woman in the Symonds St cemetery.

The man, an Auckland resident, was arrested on Saturday, April 12, by officers who had been investigating the vicious incident which was publicised recently on the television show, Police Ten-7 as 'Crime of the Week'.

Detective Sergeant Geoff Baber says the response to Police after the show was broadcast provided some crucial information and the investigation gained momentum from there.

The man is being charged with abduction, aggravated wounding, sexual violation by rape and four counts of unlawful sexual connection.
