Cricket excellence celebrated

Brett Hampton was presented with the Bay of Plenty Cricket 2013/14 Player of the Year Award at the BOPCA Prizegiving held at the Bay Oval Pavilion at Mount Maunganui on Saturday.

Black Cap batting star Kane Williamson was awarded the Bay of Plenty First Class Player of the Year.

The Bay of Plenty and Northern Knights all rounder performed with distinction for the Bay first eleven all season. Brett's genuine class was shown in two 2014 encounters with Bay of Plenty's archrivals Hamilton.

In the successful Hawke Cup defence against the Waikato side, the Bay master blaster anchored his team's innings with 103 runs, which included a 10th wicket partnership with of 63 runs with Tommy Clout. Five wickets in the Bay's Fergus Hickey Rosebowl two-day victory, testified to Brett's all round skills with both bat and ball.

A total of 1331 runs in all three forms of the game for New Zealand,were highlighted by his majestic 578 runs in test cricket at an average of 52.5.

The Bay of Plenty Women's Player of the Year trophy was presented to Kate Anderson. The talented women's player has represented the Northern Spirit Under 21 team and captained the Bay Women's team on a couple of occasion this season.

Kate is more than handy with the bat and took a five wicket bag against ND Women's heavyweights Hamilton during the season.

Three senior men's trophies recognize the achievements of three former high profile Bay of Plenty players. The Mike Wright batting prize was given to Tom MacRury who blasted 432 runs including two centuries against Poverty Bay.

Tony Goodin was awarded the Derek Beard bowling trophy for the second successive year, with Tom MacRury who is on the cusp of outstanding cricket career also winning the Brendan Bracewell most promising player award.

Anna Peterson was awarded the BOPCA Women's batting prize with Tia Robinson taking out the bowling honours.

The Mike Nitz most promising women's player was presented to Macy Adams. The Bay of Plenty Development batting honours went to Cameron Neal with Andrew Gibbs winning the bowling award.

The Alan Cotter Services to Cricket went to Lyn Govenstock for her sterling work in fostering and administration of junior cricket in the region.

Ross Ladyman was awarded the Peter Wright Services to Umpiring trophy, with Peter Swan receiving the David Johnston Services to Coach award.
