Body confirmed as missing woman

Police have confirmed the body of a woman found in a crashed Audi off State Highway 2 is that of missing Waihi Beach woman Kelly Ann Sinclair.

Police identified the body of the 25-year-old last night after the wreckage of her vehicle was towed from a paddock in Whakamarama yesterday afternoon.

Kelly was reported missing by family on Tuesday after last being seen leaving a friend's house in Katikati on Sunday, April 6.

Police say she was heading to a friend's place in Mount Maunganui but never arrived.

Kelly's blue 1997 Audi A3 was found in a paddock about midday yesterday.

Western Bay of Plenty Area Commander Inspector Clifford Paxton told SunLive initial indications are the car was travelling north when it crossed the centreline on a left hand bend and crashed off SH2.

A family friend describes Kelly as a hard-working woman who had a close relationship with her mother.

She had just moved back to Waihi Beach before Christmas after living in Auckland for a number of years.

Kelly worked at The Porch in Waihi Beach and attended Katikati College as a teen.

She was a member of the Katikati gym Katifit and was a bodybuilder.

On one of her Facebook pages, Kelly describes herself as having a sports upbringing and being a natural born competitor.

She was the BABBA WFF Pan Pacific Novice Figure runner-up in 2012.

The serious crash investigation unit is looking into the crash and police are keen to hear from anyone who saw the Blue 1997 Audi A3 late Sunday night and Wednesday.
