Firefighters from Greerton and Papamoa are putting out a number of small fires on a rural Welcome Bay property this afternoon.
The brigades were called to Waitao Road about 1pm following reports of a gorse fire potentially threatening pine trees at the rear of a property.
The fires are down the long driveway off Waitao Road.
Northern Fire Communications shift manager Scott Osmond says the fire turned out to be six small burn offs involving tree clippings.
'The person did have a fire permit and we are putting the fires out.”
The fire was not visible from the road when a SunLive reporter attended the scene, and Scott says it is 'not a major”.
