Power outages are being reported in Oropi and the Lower Kaimais as former Tropical Cyclone Lusi makes its way down the country.

Trees are also down around the Western Bay of Plenty as residents feel the force of the storm. Trampolines are also making a break for it in the wind.

This trampoline was tied to w wooden seat our the decking of a home when a gust of wind lifted the trampoline over the roof, knocking off the chimney, and lifted the seating it was tied to.

At this stage there are no reports of flooding or serious damage in Tauranga.

Tauranga City Council and Western Bay of Plenty District Council incident management teams are continuing to monitor the situation, with severe weather predicted to continue through until Sunday.

The teams are supported by the Bay of Plenty Emergency Management Group and are liaising with Civil Defence and Emergency Services across the Bay of Plenty.

All roads remain open at this stage but we advise extreme caution when travelling.

Tauranga City residents should phone the Council on 07-577 7000 if you think there is potential for flooding or tree damage in your street. All calls are logged and are sent to contractors to action as soon as possible where needed. If it is an emergency you should always phone 111.

As heavy rain and strong winds lash the Bay of Plenty, people are being warned to keep an eye on high tide tonight with the potential of flooding in low lying areas.

High tide is set for 7.42pm.

Former Tropical Cyclone Lusi is making its way down the country and leaving a wake of destruction in its path.

Power lines and tress are down in Northland with roads blocked around the North Island including State Highway 26, near Thames, were a fallen tree has blocked the road.

Police and fire are trying to clear the debris.

The MetService is forecasting 150mm to 200mm of rain in the western Bay of Plenty, with easterly gales also on the cards.

Read more about the depression here.

The current marine forecast is for easterly 25 knots rising to 35 knots, with the sea becoming rough.

A northeast swell is also expected to rise to four metres with poor visibility due to rain.

Top Tip: Trampoline acts like a parachute. Tying it to wooden seat won't do the trick. Wind+Parachute=lift weight that is heavier than the parachute you're trying to keep down. Try heavier weight.
