White Ferns at Bay Oval

International cricket returns to the Bay Oval at Mount Maunganui this weekend with the White Ferns taking on the visiting Western Indies Women's side.

The international match follows Bay of Plenty Cricket's showcase at the recent ICC Cricket World Cup Qualifier 2014.

The final two games, between the White Ferns and the visiting Western Indies Women's side will be fought out on Saturday and Sunday afternoons. While the White Ferns swept the ODI series 3-zip, the T20 series will still be alive at Blake Park.

The best part for Bay of Plenty cricket fans and families is the T20 Women's Internationals at the Bay Oval are free to attend.

In the first T20 played in Invercargill, the White Ferns batted first and posted 120/7, which set the West Indies a run a ball target.

Led by Sophie Devine, who has been described as bringing explosive power batting power to the crease, the White Fern all rounder top scored with 40 runs with Suzie Bates chipping in with 32 runs.

The West Indies were bowled out for 88 runs, which gave the New Zealand team a solid 32 run victory, with Sophie Devine also starring with the ball to return bowling figures of 2/19.

Inclement weather ruined the second T20 in Invercargill - with the White Ferns going 2-nil up in the five match series on Wednesday, with another solid victory.

Batting first the White Ferns mustered 133/6 and then bowled West Indies out for 109 to claim the win.

Sophie Devine was again in outstanding form top scoring with 46 while Katie Perkins posted a solid 34 runs. Suzie Bates took three West Indies wickets for just 21 runs in the New Zealand team victory.
