Trio lead secondary charge

John Paul College are one of three schools at the top of the pile after a five wicket win against Tauranga Boys' College White in round three of the WBOPCA Secondary School Division One competition.

Led by Craig Baldry who top scored with a solid half century and Chris Wooller who chipped in with a handy 31 runs, the Tauranga Boys side reached 204/7 in their allotted overs.

Chris Wood anchored the JPC victory with a hard fought 79, while Dylan Nanayakkara and Liam Kelly both posted scores in the forties.

Bethlehem College, join JPC and Aquinas College at the top of the standings with their own five wicket win over Otumoetai College.

Nathan Wilson was the best of the Otumoetai batsmen with 68 as his side were removed for 221. Luke Bryenton took four wickets for just 17 runs.

Bryenton then backed up his bowling heroics top scoring with a solid 66, with Dilan Ramohitai reaching 48. Luke Tatley was the pick of the Otumoetai bowlers grabbing three wickets at a cost of 37 runs.

Bay of Plenty Coastland age group rep Sean Dykes, was in good touch with the bat for Tauranga Boys College Blue against Mount Maunganui Gold, top-scoring with 63 runs in his team's total of 141/9.

Cameron Hall bowled well to finish with 4/30. But the Mount side took out a four wicket win with Matt Shanley belting 45, while Mikaere Leef grabbed four wickets for Tauranga Boys.

Final scores were missing in the Aquinas victory over Trident High School – but Aquinas players Andrew Norman, 95 not out, Jesse Church, 55 not out, Cayne Dew, 5/18, were mentioned in despatches.

Another Bay of Plenty youngster to impress was Hayden Downes, blasting 100 not out for the Rotorua Combined side against Bethlehem College Second XI, in a Division Two match.
