Woman crushed against ATM

A Waihi woman is in Waikato Hospital with serious leg injuries after being crushed against a cash machine by a car in Waihi today.

The woman, believed to be in her 60s, was outside the ANZ bank on Seddon Street when she was rammed by a car and pinned on the footpath about 11.10am.

St John Hauraki territory manger Pauline Davison says bank staff performed CPR on the woman until police and ambulance staff arrived 10-20 minutes later.

Auckland Westpac Rescue Helicopter crewman Karl Taylor says St John staff extricated the woman from the car before transporting her to the local reserve to be airlifted.

'She has lower leg injuries and was taken to Waikato Hospital in a serious but stable condition,” says Karl.

It is unknown what led to the car crashing into the woman and the cash machine, but the driver is cooperating with police.
