Trial for drug accused

A Welcome Bay man facing multiple drug charges is continuing to deny the allegations and will head to trial next year.

Derek Vince Gibson is charged with 16 counts of supplying cannabis, 22 counts of conspiring to deal methamphetamine and 14 counts of supplying methamphetamine.

Derek Gibson is set to head to trial next year.

He is also charged with possession of cannabis for supply and conspiring to deal cannabis, according to court documents.

Gibson appeared in Tauranga District Court yesterday where Judge Thomas Ingram remanded the accused in custody until January 23 for a hearing before his scheduled trial in February.

Gibson was arrested earlier this year after police raided his Welcome Bay home and allegedly found a number of drug related instruments and seized half a gram of cannabis.

Police say they also found $1495 in cash, a glass pipe used for methamphetamine, and electric scale and a plastic point bag at the property.

According to police Gibson also tried to destroy a sim card when they entered the house. Police say the card contained a month of incriminating text messages.
