He didn’t set out to clean up the natural health industry but Dr Shaun Holt’s vitamin business has succeeded and is now nominated for a major pharmaceutical company’s award.

 Dr Shaun Holt, and vitamins.
The Tauranga based pharmacist, vitamin researcher and author begins his national television advertising campaign for The Vitamin Lab today.
The Vitamin Lab is a finalist in the science and health category of the Bayer Innovators Awards.
The Vitamin Lab allows consumers to buy tailored vitamin and supplement recommendations that are research based.
The awards will be announced in Auckland on Tuesday, August 25, 2009.
“I was investigating supplements,” says Shaun. “I had to do some research into natural products and some were really good, but some are rubbish, and people would never know.”
A pharmacist and a doctor with a research background, Shaun wrote a best seller about it, Natural Remedies That Really Work.
The response to his book and his knowledge of pill packaging robots sparked the idea for his business, The Vitamin Lab.
“For people who are taking four or more vitamins or supplements a day, just taking them is hard enough,” says Shaun.
“There are all the bottles, they run out at different times, and they are expensive.”
He’s developed a system that provides pre packed daily supplement sachets.
He says there’s no irony in a vitamin seller being nominated for an award sponsored by a pharmaceutical company.
Bayer is the company that originally marketed aspirin, a derivative of a willow bark natural remedy.
