Father and son back in court

The Tauranga father and son accused of importing and supplying cocaine and methamphetamine have been back in court.

Seth Evans, 21, and Joseph Evans, 50, appeared separately before Judge Robert Wolff on Friday for call over hearings ahead of their trials to be held at the Rotorua High Court.

Drugs confiscated as part of a raid in Mount Maunganui.

The pair are jointly charged with importing cocaine and methamphetamine, and possessing cocaine and methamphetamine for supply.

Appearing first, the younger Evans' lawyer Rita Nabney, on behalf of Bill Nabney, says Evans is continuing his not guilty plea and requested his attendance be excused at a call over on September 12.

Crown Prosecutor Greg Hollister-Jones agreed saying all that is left to be heard are pre-trial matters.

His father Joseph, represented by lawyer Tony Balme, is also pleading not guilty.

Judge Wolff remanded Seth Evans on bail until September 12 for a second call over, while Joseph is scheduled to reappear on August 16.

The pair were arrested following a police raid on a Mount Maunganui storage unit on January 20.

Police found two sealed bags containing 130 grams of the Class A drug cocaine and 220 grams of methamphetamine.

At the time of the raid, Detective Sergeant Darryl Brazier said the cocaine had a potential street value of between $260,000 and $1million, depending on the purity.

'Methamphetamine alone has a street value of around $220,000.”
