Stabbing accused on bail

A Tauranga man accused of stabbing another man in Greerton is likely to plead guilty to his charges at his next court appearance.

Joshua Pratt-Keatley, 27, appeared in Tauranga Registrar's Court yesterday morning represented by lawyer Tony Rickard-Simms.

He is charged with wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and assault on a child.

He was originally facing three charges, but the charge of injuring with intent was dropped by police.

The charges stem from an incident in Greerton overnight on June 5-6 where Pratt-Keatley is alleged to have stabbed a man at a Rawhiti St address.

Detective Sergeant Alan Kingsbury says the victim received a number of stab wounds to his upper body. The victim was treated at Tauranga Hospital before being discharged.

During Pratt-Keatley's appearance today, Tony indicated his client intended to plead guilty to the charges and asked for more time to gather reports, including a psychiatric report, needed in the defence of his client's case.

Pratt-Keatley was remanded on bail and is due to reappear in court on July 19.
