Further jail time for Mount man

A Mount Maunganui man has had an extra 18 months added to his existing jail sentence after admitting to attacking two women last year.

Phillip Hunter was charged with one count each of injuring with intent to injure and grievous bodily harm in relation to the attack that put two women in hospital in July 2012.

The women, aged 22 and 39 at the time of the incident, were taken to Tauranga Hospital with facial and head injuries following the attack at a Carter Street home.

Hunter was due to stand trial in Tauranga District Court on June 5 in relation to the assault.

Instead, he pleaded guilty plea to injuring with intent to injure charge and was discharged on the grievous bodily harm charge.

The presiding judge sentenced him to 18 months prison - added to his already existing sentence of two years and three months for stabbing his brother.

Earlier this year, Hunter was found guilty of stabbing his younger brother Reagan with a knife during an argument at their Mount Maunganui home in March, 2012.

Regan was found by a member of the public at the Central Parade shops bleeding from a minor stab wound to the abdomen.

He was taken to Tauranga Hospital where he underwent keyhole surgery to repair the wound.
