The $15 million refurbishment of Bayfair Shopping Centre is underway with contract holder, Tauranga based firm Marra Construction, keeping the works local.
Marra employs more than 30 on-site workers at the mall each day and has an additional 8-10 sub-contractors, all from the Bay of Plenty, working there too.

Bayfair Shopping Centre manager Andrew Wadsworth, Tauranga MP Simon Bridges and Rob Bailey from Marra Construction survey plans from the roof of the mall.
This kind of Tauranga based and focused investment is positive and MP Simon Bridges says this is a signal that the economy is growing in strength.
"While things have been tough for many in our region during recession, we have pulled through well and will come out stronger," says Simon.
Bayfair Shopping Centre manager Andrew Wadsworth says this project is exciting for the centre's staff and retailers.
"It is a tremendous refurbishment and the timing is ideal as we approach Bayfair's 25th anniversary," says Andrew.
"It will add more shops to the retail mix and give the front of the centre a more contemporary look, which will be great for retailers and customers alike."
The project is to be completed in two stages.
First, Woolworths' entrance is being widened as well as some refurbishments in-store there and second, a floorplan realignment will occur in the mall's front sector to enable new stores be built, included the region's first JB Hi-Fi.
