Billboard fun a jab at city traffic

Someone is again playing mind games with Auckland commuters.

A billboard facing drivers heading into Auckland just before the Mount Wellington exit to Sylvia Park was recently defaced.

It changed the board's message from ‘Welcome to Auckland, enjoy your day' to ‘Welcome to Auckland, enjoy your delay'.

Someone has defaced a billboard in Auckland changing the words from day to delay.

As people return to commuting after the summer holidays, and children head back at school congestion has returned to 'horrendous” levels.

The Welcome to Auckland message remained untagged for the first week before changing.

In May 2012 a billboard appeared on Quay Street near the Port of Auckland stating ‘Tauranga is New Zealand's ultimate business location without dispute'.

The message was an easily interpreted reminder that while the Ports of Auckland was embroiled in industrial disputes, some of their former customers had moved to Tauranga.

That billboard was contracted by regional economic development agency Priority One. It was explained as a cheeky bit of fun but with a serious message.

Priority One is not commenting about the Southern Motorway billboard.

Another billboard could tell the people the truth and read as follows:-"Priority One gets nothing done".

In Tauranga to me, might not be the same for others but it seems people go too fast or too slow, weather it's 5-10kph over or under the speed limit, dont get me on the lane changers along cameron road...... It's not a race track... Apart from that and the daily traffic jams it's not too bad speaking as someone born in Auckland!
