Cyclist and truck collide

Posted at 8:45am Tuesday 29 Jan, 2013 | By Letitia Atkinson letitia@thesun.co.nz

A cyclist is in Tauranga Hospital after being knocked off his bike by a truck near the flyover in Mount Maunganui today.

The cyclist was riding along Maunganui Road when he and the truck collided about 400metres east of the flyover around 8.30am.

Police and St John Ambulance respond to the crash on Maunganui Road.

A reporter at the scene says St John Paramedics treated the injured man at the scene before taking him to Tauranga Hospital.

His injuries are unknown at this stage but reports are the cyclist was conscious but in a lot of pain.

The driver of the truck involved in the accident, who did not want to be named, says the cyclist pulled out onto the road to move around a park car.

“He pulled right into the path of the truck hitting the front left-hand corner of the truck.”

Police are investigating the incident.
