Rider killed on famous track

A motorcyclist has been killed in a crash on the well-known Thompsons Track, in the Kaimai Ranges about 12kms from Te Aroha.

Police, Ambulance and the Westpac rescue helicopter attended but the rider died at the scene.

The crash happened on Thompsons Track on the Matamata side just after 1pm today.

Thompsons Track is a well-known track leading bikers and 4x4 vehicles through the Kaimai Ranges.

The police serious crash unit will be investigating the cause of the crash.
