Star Trek stolen from Pilot Bay

A commercial fishing boat appears to have been stolen from its mooring in Pilot Bay in the last two days.

The 33ft wooden hulled Carey style boat called Star Trek is turquoise in colour with green wheelhouse red anti-fouling and an orange roof.

The fishing boat Star Trek is missing from its mooring in Pilot Bay.

The boat, worth about $60,000 - $70,000, is looking pristine having just completed a four yearly survey, haul out and re-paint.

Star Trek was last seen on its mooring on Monday night, but was gone by Tuesday night.

Owner Mike Antrobus rowed out to check the vacant mooring and found nothing wrong with it.

He says the mooring float and headline have been tossed overboard in the normal manner.

Star Trek is rigged for gill netting and has a large plywood box on its stern with steel around it.

The engine key was not on board.

Star Trek has enough fuel on board to run the engine for 100 hours. Her cruising speed is seven knots.

'I don't even know which way they have gone, with the head start they have got they could be anywhere by now, even the South Island,” says Mike.

Mike is hoping someone will report the distinctive looking boat and is putting the word out to the marine industry.

If anyone has information about the boat they can contact Tauranga Police on 577 4300 or contact Mike on 027 5306876.
