With only 12 members in the squad for the 2009 NZ Surf Life Saving Pool Champs held in Wellington last weekend, Papamoa Surf Lifesaving Club’s seven medal haul is a promising sign for the upcoming season.
Georgia Aitken dominated the under 11 year women’s events, winning gold in the 50 metre brick carry event, gold in the 50 metre swim with fins and silver in the 50 metre swim with obstacles.

Rebecca Parkes took silver in the under 16 women’s 50 metre swim with fins event, with Natalie Peat winning bronze alongside her.

Bitter weather throughout the North Island had no effect on the comfort of indoor facilities for this particular event.
Lifeguards will soon be braving chillier conditions as they prepare to start patrolling local beaches this month.
