Teen, 15, assaulted in Te Puke

Police are investigating the physical assault of a 15-year-old girl in a Te Puke street.

The teenager was walking down Gulliver Road at about 4.15pm on Tuesday when police say she was followed by an unknown man who tackled her to the ground and physically assaulted her.

Western Bay of Plenty area commander Inspector Clifford Paxton says when the student went to get up she was physically assaulted by the man.

“He has then run off through nearby orchard properties.

“The alleged attacker is described to be of Indian descent."

Police want to hear from anybody who may have witnessed this incident or has seen this person in the area at the time.

Anyone with information relevant the investigation is being asked to contact Tauranga Police on 07 577 4300.
