Man winched from Mount

A 53-year-old man is in Tauranga Hospital after being winched off the side of Mauao in Mount Maunganui today.

The Tauranga-based TrustPower TECT Rescue helicopter was called to winch the local man from the mountain after he collapsed while walking up the walking track.

The TrustPower TECT Rescue helicopter winches the unwell man from Mauao.

Pilot Liam Brettkelly says the man was three quarters of the way up the mountain when he became unwell.

He was winched off the track using the Port of Tauranga rescue winch and flown to Tauranga hospital for further treatment.

The mount is not the biggest hill could he not have just been carried down on a stretcher. Thought with a little muscle it would have been the easier option not to mention the cheaper.
