The Bay of Plenty has had a wild 24 hours with electrical storms, erupting volcanos and earthquakes.
GNS Science reports an earthquake with a magnitude of 4.7 shook the Opotiki region around 7.31am.

It was centred 40km north-east of Opotiki and had a focal depth of 40km.
GNS Science reports it was felt in the wider Bay of Plenty.
The earthquake is just one of three environmental events which captivated residents’ attention in the Bay of Plenty.
