The Greerton Marist Chargers U11 rugby team is on a crusade.

Team members, who are busy fundraising for an end of year rugby trip to Auckland’s North Shore, have run sausage sizzles, raffles and a hangi to raise funds.

But the efforts just went up a notch – the team has two signed 2012 Crusaders jerseys to auction on Trade Me.

Manager Stu Cundy says the team sent letters to each of New Zealand’s rugby franchises requesting a signed jersey.

The Crusaders, whose franchise area lies almost 1000km away, were the only team to reply after the Greerton side won a spot in the team’s charitable draw.

“Maybe this sums up the Crusaders franchise that even with the drama they have had over recent times, they can still support a fan base as far as Tauranga.

“We haven’t heard boo from any of the other franchises, not even our own beloved Chiefs.”

The first listing (#495629575) is for an XL signed 2012 Crusaders jersey, while the second (#495636408) is for its smaller equivalent.

The auction is due to close on Sunday, July 29, with the amount of money raised to dictate what the team will be able to do on its travels.

Current bids for the Crusaders 2012 signed rugby jersey are sitting around $280.
