Escaped prisoner caught

Police have located the prisoner who escaped from a police vehicle in the Pyes Pa Road area earlier today.

The 19-year-old European man escaped from a police van while being transported from Tauranga to Rotorua at about 1.45pm.

Police say the offender is not considered dangerous.

Police at the entrance to a Pyes Pa Road property where they are searching for an escaped prisoner.

Six police cars including two unmarked vehicles and a dog handling unit were involved in the  search for the escapee.

The man described as having shoulder length blonde hair, wearing a black sweatshirt, black track pants, bare feet was found at an address with known links to the escapee at about 3.45pm.

Two police officers were also stationed at the Pyes Pa Primary School this afternoon.

Police say the man will now be facing additional charges.

A full investigation into the incident has been launched.

I would have thought, being caught once was enough, why the hell would you want to leave a nice warm car, when you were possibly heading for food and shelter, be interesting to hear how you did get out the door though, obviously the Police did not think anyone would be dumb enough to try and get away in the rain.

I doubt he’ll get far? Fancy escaping in this weather..lol
