Recently released statistics show more young people are staying in school instead of being expelled or suspended for bad behaviour.

Otumoetai School is trialling a new system where teachers try other methods of discipline, like calling the police if drugs are located on a student.

SunLive asked people in the community what they thought the best way of dealing bad behaviour in school would be.

Some people suggested detention and exclusion, while the majority of people asked said to bring back the cane.

Oh that is a bit much, all well and good to have those really useful toys available but don’t tell them in advance, takes away a lot of the pleasure of the shocked/paniced/shaking that one just enjoys so much.

Shrinks will make things a lot worse, they tried that in the US and found that the youth sucide rate increased heaps because kids could not handle being out what the mind had buried.

Time to bring back all the old stuff. You can’t beat a good flogging, thumbscrew or denailing. If they still misbahave get them on the rack. I have one in the shed next to the dentists chair.

never did any harm to anyone but it certainly made it clear that there was a bit of pain at the end of the trail of bad behaviour, that is what matters, a connection between bad behaviour and pain! It assists some to realise that there is consequence for bad behaviour and rightly so.
