Motorists are being advised to drive with caution as heavy rain causes surface flooding on arterial routes through the Bay of Plenty region.
As heavy rain continues to batter the region there are reports of surface flooding on State Highway 29 over the Kaimai Ranges and warning signs on the highway have been activated.

Tauranga Police Senior Sergeant Rob Glencross says police have received reports of surface flooding on SH29 and are asking motorists to be extra vigilant.
“The VMS signs have been activated up the Kaimais so it is visible to people that there are issues with the roading.
“We expect that the weather is going to continue and may even worsen so it wouldn’t be surprising if most of the main arterial roads and some of the urban roads start to become quite flooded.
He advises motorists to slow down and drive to the conditions, and pay extra attention to driving distances.
“Anyone driving anywhere needs to be careful.”

Not sure what other type of "cause" there would be for flooding? Looks to me to be more like a certainty that the rain caused it.
