Boy, 10, believed shot dead

A 10-year-old boy is dead after an incident involving a gun in the Waikura Valley in the East Cape.

The boy is believed to have been playing with a group of friends around a similar age when the incident happened about 4pm on Tuesday.

A police investigation has been launched and a scene examination is underway.

An autopsy will be undertaken to determine the cause of death.
