Waikato Police say it would be inappropriate to discuss the process behind the withdrawing of charges against a driver involved in a fatal pedestrian crash without having communicated the investigation’s findings to the victim’s wider family.
District Commander, Superintendent Win van der Velde says it was forensic evidence gathered during the inquiry into the January 15 crash, combined with legal advice that led to the charge of careless driving causing death being withdrawn in a hearing at the Hamilton District Court today.
"This matter still remains within the judicial purview of the Coroner and a hearing date to determine the cause of 26-year-old William Gregory Hoskins’ death is still to be set."
Win says arrangements to meet with the family to discuss the investigation and its findings are being made and will be determined by the availability of those family members.
