Busy afternoon traffic was stalled at Bayfair on Saturday, afer a train clipped a cyclist.

A collision with a train and a cyclist stalled traffic and drew people’s attention. Photos: Daniel Hines.

Senior Constable Chris Hill says the train was heading towards Kawerau when the cyclist, coming from the Matapihi side of the rail crossing, tried to cross in front of it.

He says the train clipped the cyclist, who was not hurt in the collision and was seen to be walking away from the incident.

“It’s not rocket science. People need to look both ways.”

Ooo easy ’Accountable’, that is one heck of a generalisation if ever I’ve seen one. One person makes a stupid call, for whatever reason, and now we’re all brainless, ’pampered’ ’idiots’?

Motoristsare just as bad

How many idiot motorists have you seen driving as close to a cyclist as they can to just be annoying. It happens all the time. Most cyclists are responsible road users as are motorists but just like motorists there are the idiot few who flout the road rules and take risks. This one must have been trying to be too clever.

It takes more time for a train to stop. People need to be aware.

of course no motorist or truck driver has ever tried to cross the path of a oncoming train at a crossing. Yeah Right !

Brains

I am cyclist, I have a brain, and I live in the Bay of Plenty. Are there any car drivers in Tauranga with brains? Red lights, giving way and using indicators dont mean anything to residents of Tauranga and this is coming from an ex Auckland driver who thought he had seen it all!!!

Stupid

Are there any cyclist with a brain in their head in the Bay of Plenty? From my experience they are few and far between just like their brains. They are pampered by our local councils and these idiots still will not take responsibility for themselves. Was the train going to fast or was the driver of the train not taking due care or was he not paying attention? It would of course be the train drivers responsibility just as its apparently always the car or truck drivers fault.
