State Highway 2 has been closed north bound from Fairview Road due to excessive flooding.

The only route to travel north via Tauranga is State Highway 29. Detour signs are in place at Bethlehem.

A series of lows have hit the North Island and continue to sweep down the North Island.

Katikati volunteer fire chief Joe Manukau says the multiple houses  in low lying areas suffered flooding damage but none had to be evacuated.

The worst structural damage occurred to the Countdown Supermarket after  the roof developed  leaks.

Fire crews used tarpaulins to stop further damage.
Two fire appliances and a van along with 21 volunteer firefighters were utilised in the flood area.

Reports coming into SunLive say the northbound lane on SH2 Katikati has been reopened and as the waters recede it is expected both lanes will open shortly.
