One person is being taken to Tauranga Hospital following a two car collision on Welcome Bay Road at its intersection with Kairua Road.
Sergeant Lester Polglase says it appears a dark grey Nissan Sunny failed to stop at the Kairua Road stop sign, colliding with a silver Mitsubishi travelling east along Welcome Bay Road just after 2pm on Tuesday.
One of the cars involved in a crash at the intersection of Kairua Road and Welcome Bay Road.
He says the force of the collision shunted the Nissan into a ditch.
The Mitsubishi was removed from the road allowing traffic to continue to flow.
Both vehicles are being removed from the scene and police are investigating the accident.
