Heavy rain in the Nelson Bays area has closed several roads and made driving treacherous this evening and Police are advising motorists to stay at home.
Flooding is currently affecting roads in Wakefield, Kohatu, Motueka, Brightwater, Appleby and Richmond.
Sergeant Jo Managh of Nelson Bays Police says many roads were affected by surface flooding and contractors were out erecting warning signs.
She advised motorists to avoid driving unless it was absolutely essential.
