I have lived & worked in both countries. Yes you can earn more in Oz, but it also costs more to live there. Everything is relative, to put it simply if a pie shop employs someone at better pay the cost of a pie will be more to cover that cost. On a recent trip to Queensland the cheapest piece of fish(hoki)at fish & chip shops was $7. Also Oz is a heavily taxed country, they have an extra level of government to support (state government) we dont have. A lot more hidden taxes, excise is a classic one, which is why you can buy Aussie beer & Aussie cars (in fact all cars)in NZ cheaper then in OZ. It is not how much you earn that counts, it is how far your after tax dollar goes that counts, the Aussies are no better off.
