Meg Theriault, who was critically injured in a crash which killed three Boston University students near Turangi in May, is on a medi-flight bound for Boston with her parents.

Boston University students Auistin Brashears, Roch Jauberty and Daniela Lekhno were killed when the people-mover they were travelling in hit gravel and rolled three times on SH46, on the way to Tongariro Crossing.

Meg had been in Waikato Hospital since the crash four weeks ago.

Her parents Todd and Deb have been by her side since the crash and say they want to thank everyone in New Zealand.

“We are overwhelmed by the appreciation and kindness and I want to take this opportunity to say how fantastic the care at Waikato Hospital has been, it’s been great,” says Todd.

“We’re just overwhelmed by the appreciation and the kindness of all the people. Thank you. We’re on our way home, we will be back, we will be back – to show our appreciation again. Meg has a lot of people she needs to thank.”

Deb says her daughter would return to New Zealand once she finished her studies at Boston University.

“She will thank everyone in person and she will do that Tongaririo Crossing. She’s a determined girl and as a family we’ll be here to support her.”
