Tauranga Yacht and Power Boat Club member Jason Saunders and Paul Snow-Hansen have won the bronze medal in the Olympics dress rehearsal, the Sail for Gold world cup regatta in Weymouth.

Sailing in the 270 class, Jason and Paul finished fourth in their medal race which was enough to take bronze on points.

With the games six weeks away, there remains only the final regatta in Germany later this month before the pair sail for Olympic medals.

Jo Aleh and Olivia Price won gold after taking third place in the medal race in the women’s 470 competition, also being held on the Olympic course.

The Tauranga Yacht and Power Boat Club has two sailors competing in London.

Peter Burling, the youngest sailor ever to be selected for the Olympics, will sail a 49er with Blair Tuke from the Kerikeri club at the London Olympics. Peter was a member of 2008 team in the 470 class.

The twelve sailors in the 2012 New Zealand Olympic Team come from seven sailing clubs, with only Tauranga and Kerikeri being from outside Auckland.
