More snow is expected to fall on the Desert Road this afternoon.

A MetService spokesperson says snow flurries are likely to return, with an additional 1-2cm of snow expected to accumulate on the road from midday to midnight tonight, after a similar amount was forecast this morning.

Meanwhile, according to the MetService, Tauranga can expect cold southerlies for most of the week as a southwest flow continues to make its presence felt.

MetService meteorologist Dan Corbett says the Bay of Plenty’s eastern coast is also likely to experience very large waves this week which will peak today and tomorrow.

“Sweeping waves on exposed eastern coasts will bring the risk of coastal erosion and a risk to people on beaches.”

The region can expect colder weather throughout the week and frosts across the country, says Dan.
