A teenager is being treated at Tauranga Hospital for suspected head injuries after being involved in a collision with a car on Maunganui Road.

Emergency services were called to the accident at the intersection of Maungaui Road and Spur Avenue just before 3pm.

Emergency services blocked a section of Maunganui Road while paramedics treated the victim.

Police took statements from witnesses, while Mount Maunganui Fire Brigade blocked a section of the road.

It’s believed a 13-year-old boy was injured as a restult of being hit by the car.

Minor traffic delays were caused as a result of the accident.

Police are investigating how the accident happened.

For Itsme, again

I do feel moved to respond to your (Itsme) comments since you seem to be “the pot calling the kettle black.” So you know who was at fault in this accident, do you? You are making assumptions that it was the fault of the driver. Were you there? How do you know? Do you know the boy? I presume you live at the Mount and belong to the group of “worst drivers in the north island”as you describe them. Is this statement of yours an ‘evidence-based’ one, or is it simply reflecting an emotional perception? One point you have overlooked is that there is also a traumatised driver involved in this accident regardless of who is to blame. In case you think not, I do have empathy for the family and the boy. By the way, I offer an apology to other bloggers and any others regarding the erroneous information I was given which led to the reference of there being a skateboard involved. However, this in no way changes the comments I made in an earlier posting about my experiences with some skateboarders and drifters intent on running very high risks of serious injury or worse. Read that post again, carefully.

Forgot one important factor... It’s common knowledge Mt drivers are the WORST in the north island! Wonder if this helped the situation...

How are you refusing to " these guys" do you know this boy, I doubt it. What in earth has this got to do with night? I find it incredible how people make up in "their own mind" who this boy is, what he was doing at the time & if this was his fault, again this is a child... You should join " hardly surprising and join twitter face book or read a book. The poor family of this boy, I hope they don’t read your negative comments

How on earth would you know if he was biking, boarding, riding ???? I find it appalling that narrow minded people like you make such stupid comments. The boy is in a serious condition. I wish him well & hope people think twice before post more negative comments! Hardly surprising, join Facebook or twitter !!

I think the above comment by penguin titled Hardly surprising is rude and extremely naive. Get a life people and have some compassion!

Penguin, yes skateboarders may cause distractions and be careless and reckless at times, but this 13 year old boy has suspected head injuries, a family and friends who are no doubt besides themselves with worry. I am sure head injuries and a scare like this will a meaningful lesson to him and a lot of people. He may not completely give it up but I am sure he didn’t go out intentionally to scare the driver of the care and cause a traffic delay. And especially not to give himself head injuries. He is still a child who has to learn the hard way.
