The North Island Powerlifting Championships are on in Tauranga today giving men and women the chance to display their strength as they compete against each other in different weight classes.

The first session will start at 10am at the QE2 Memorial Hall in Tauranga.


Women are competing in one group and the men will take each other on in 83kg weight range, a 93kg to 105kg weight range and 105kg to 120+kg weight range.

People wanting to see the action are being invited to head along to the QE2 Hall from 10am.

Organisers are asking spectators to provide a gold coin donation.
