Kimura murder accused elect trial

Four men accused of murdering Tauranga man Gary Kimura elected trial at their arraignment in the High Court in Rotorua today.

A two-week trial date is set down for February 11, 2013 in Hamilton.

Gary Kimura was assaulted in his Margaret Road home on October 5, 2011 and died in Tauranga Hospital on November 16 as a result of his injuries.

Taonui Hiku, 25, and Witeri Ahomiro Neketai, 34, both unemployed from Te Puke, and Joseph Rewiri, 44, from Auckland, are remanded in custody.

Jesse Christopher Hartley, 27, of Mount Maunganui is on bail.

All four are charged with murder in relation to the death of Gary Kimura.

Gary was transferred to Tauranga Hospital from the high dependence ward at Waikato Hospital shortly before he died.

The alleged attack left him with injuries to his brain, fractures to his cheek and damage to his eye socket and rear of his skull.
