Police can confirm the man whose body was found in a remote forestry block near Waimate on Sunday is missing local man Jason Frandi.

Detective Inspector Greg Williams says Police are focussed on tracing the movements of Mr Frandi since he was reported missing at 11am on Saturday morning.

“We need to know where Mr Frandi went since Saturday morning and anyone who had contact with him.”

The family of Mr Frandi have been advised of the identification.

“Mr Frandi is aged 43, with a No. 1 shaved haircut, of solid build with extensive tattoos on his arms and the back of his hands.

“We also need sightings of his silver 1997 BMW, registration ATT530.

“We believe Mr Frandi was travelling somewhere in the Waimate, Kurow and Cromwell area on Saturday afternoon.”

A scene examination of the forestry area where the two bodies were found is continuing today and a team of nine staff are searching surrounding tracks in an effort to locate the BMW.

A post-mortem examination on the two bodies is also taking place in Christchurch today.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Waimate police station on 03 689 7272.
