Senior Sergeant Wayne Hunter says the spill is at the top of the range.
“The rain is making it trickle down and causing greasy conditions.”
Police say hazard signs are in place but some drivers appear to be ignoring the signs.
Drivers are being advised to drive with extreme caution, particularly on the downhill stretch travelling towards Hamilton.
