Motorists are being advised to drive with caution on State Highway 29 over the Kaimai Range due to an 8km diesel spill this morning.

Diesel has spilled on the road stretching 4km in the westbound lanes either side of the summit causing the road to become slippery in places.

Senior Sergeant Wayne Hunter says the spill is at the top of the range.

“The rain is making it trickle down and causing greasy conditions.”

Police say hazard signs are in place but some drivers appear to be ignoring the signs.

Drivers are being advised to drive with extreme caution, particularly on the downhill stretch travelling towards Hamilton.
