Police say the alleged assault occurred in the vicinity of a nightclub on Great North Road in New Lynn between 3am and 4.30am on Sunday, May 20.

They say a young man has approached the victim and led her to the rear of nearby buildings where the victim has been subjected to strangulation and punching.

She suffered severe bruising to her eyes and cuts to the nose.

The alleged offender is described as:

•           Male, Pacific Islander.

•           Height - Approximately 172 cm.

•           Stated that he was 25yrs old.

•           Young looking face / baby face.

•           Athletic build, described as having a “six pack” stomach.

•           Short curly black hair cut close to his head.

•           Wearing fitted black T-shirt, and jeans.

•           His manner was described as arrogant and self assured.

•           The victim’s cell phone and Sony walkman have both been stolen.

Police say the offender may have several marks on either side of his face and neck area as a result of being scratched by the victim as she defended herself.

The attacker has then run off towards Great North Road.

Anyone who has information on the identity or whereabouts of this man is asked to call Detective Constable G. Scott at Henderson Police Station 09 839 0600.
