Rugby fans now have a chance to take a closer look at their favourite Super Rugby team with the launch of Chiefs TV.
The Chiefs Super Rugby franchise has launched their own online video channel following the release of New Zealand’s first Investec Rugby franchise mobile phone application by the Chiefs last week.
Chiefs’ marketing manager Sean Austin says they have stepped up their use of social media through Facebook, Twitter and their own mobile application to great a greater connection between the players and supporters.
“We are hoping Chiefs TV will be another step forward in this area by giving our fans a behind the scenes look at the players, their personalities and their daily lives as professional rugby players.”
Riding their wave of popularity of social media, Sean says the Chiefs already use other social media but know by launching Chiefs TV it will help give fans a behind the scenes look at the players and help encourage fan engagement.
Chiefs TV is produced by Kiwi company OnSport.
Founder of OnSport Patrick MacFie says as social media grows the whole idea is to get fans closer to players.
“This is one of the most unique and innovated ways to do it.”
The first series features players Liam Messam, Craig Clarke, Tim Nanai Williams and Declan O’Donnell.
