New Zealand First is calling on the Government to make one final effort to retrieve the bodies of the 29 Pike River mine workers.

Leader Winston Peters says responsibility to recover the bodies sits squarely on the shoulders of Prime Minister John Key who, he says, is hiding from the issue.

“It’s not about the cost of the recovery but about providing closure to this disaster for the Pike River families and the country as a whole.

“There are international teams of experts quite capable of undertaking this sort of mission.”

Winston says John promised he would do everything he could to recover the bodies but has done nothing.

“Now he is hiding behind the sale of the mine to Solid Energy.

“It is just another example of the Prime Minister’s ‘spray and walk away’ attitude.”
