A Tauranga City Council spokesperson says the road will be closed again to city bound traffic from 7am on Saturday until 6am on Monday.

During this time, Welcome Bay Road between Waitaha Road and the shopping centre will be also be closed as contractors continue laying a new sewer pipe.

Access to the shopping centre and all businesses in the area will be maintained at all times.

Detours will be in place through Waitaha Road, James Cook Drive and Village Park.

If the weather is bad, the work will be done on the next fine weekend.

You would have to ask why this is necessary surely work could be done in hours or in a way that did not unnecessarily inconvenience the public.Where on earth is Councillor Bill Grainger when you need him on something like this -after all he is the Welcome Bay Ward Councillor although on recent performances you would have to wonder !!
