A Bay of Plenty man is facing a charge of murder in relation to the death of Tokaanu man Gordon Alfred Tunnicliffe, 64.
The 21-year-old was arrested and charged with assault following a home invasion incident on April 14.
Detective Inspector Mark Loper says the charge was upgraded to murder as a result of further inquiries, including post-mortem results.
Gordon never regained consciousness after he was attacked in his home and died in Cranford Hospice in Hastings on April 28.
Mark says Gordon’s family have been advised of the murder charge and Police are continuing to work closely with the family to keep them informed of the investigation.
