Record numbers of people visited the Tauranga Home Show this weekend with organisers calling it a “$10million weekend” event.
The Home Show, which came to a close at 5pm on Sunday, experienced a 10 per cent increase in visitor numbers than any other year according to organiser Graeme Martin.

Tauranga Home Show organiser Graeme Martin reflects on the weekend’s show. Watch video by Ross Brown below.
“It was a wonderful weekend – a perfect storm,” says Graeme.
“Good weather, good crowds, good sales, good everything.”
More than 10,500 people visited the Home Show this year, 1000 more than the previous record of 9,500.
Graeme says much of the success was thanks to Sun Media, who worked closely with Home Show organisers to promote the event.
“The supplement in the Weekend Sun, combined with the videos and coverage on SunLive really helped to draw the record crowds.”
Graeme says the TECT Arena also had a lot to do with the show’s success, providing shelter, warmth and toilets far superior to previous years.
The timing was great, house sales are moving again, the weather has been good, it all worked together really well, he says.

“Sometimes you can nail it, and that’s what we did this weekend.
“Normally the Home Show can turn over $8million -10million at the show, research tells us after the show for the next 6 months that figure can be doubled.”
The total turnover for the weekend’s Home Show was $10million.
The winners of the best large stand at the show were Kitchens and Cupboards. The middle-sized stand went to Wilsons Plumbing and and Lux Sound was the best small stand winner.
Each winner took away a $1000 Matelko Galaxy S2 smartphone and bottle of bubbles, says Graeme.

Paula de Moor and Charles Speedy of Lux Sound.
The name of the winners for the four main prizes will be drawn on Tuesday at the Radio Network, with the winners notified on Thursday.
The four prizes are: A $5000 ANZ series saver account, $5000 worth of double glazing from Energy Savings Centre, an $8000 laundry renovation from More Than Kitchens, Bay Better Electrical and partners and a $2500 premier shower from Premier Showers.
