The National Rock Climbing series is in Mount Maunganui today, as climbers compete in the regional finals to see who will be moving onto the national event in July.
Judge Chuck Wingfield says it’s just a one day competition involving climbers from all around the central North Island.

“We’ve got people from Taupo, Rotorua and Hamilton who will all be competing at the Rock House on Triton Ave.
“In July is when the national competition comes into town and in that we will have people from the North and South Island for the two day event.”
He says it’s really cool sport and expects “heaps of kids to be down there today”.
“It’s a really good sport, especially for teenagers. It keeps their mind focused and keeps them out of trouble.”
Chuck encourages people to head along to the Rock House to check out the competition.
