The Bay of Plenty Coast to Country ride is heading to Mount Maunganui as cyclists take part in the charitable event starting from Whakatane.

Cyclists hit the road around 9.30am to take in the scenery the BOP has to offer and to help raise money for two charitable organisations – Eastern Bay of Plenty Life Education Trust and Waipuna Hospice.

Winding out of Whakatane, the riders will proceed on a mainly flat ride to Tauranga.

They will travel along State Highway 2, passing the sandy beach line of Matata to Otamarakau.

Organisers say they will then leave the main road and head down Old Coach Road to the honey centre of Paengaroa.

“A right turn at Paengaroa and the riders head towards and through Te Puke, the Kiwifruit capital of NZ.

“Continuing from Te Puke and turning in to Bell Road the riders make their way through the edge of Papamoa towards Mount Maunganui.”

A couple of final left turns and the riders will come out on to Maunganui Road for a sprint to the finish line at Mount Maunganui College.
