Work on State Highway 2 between Cambridge Road overbridge and the Route K overbridge continues with delays expected into early May.

Work on this section of highway is subject to weather conditions and motorists are advised to expect delays when works are being undertaken at peak times.

This information from Tauranga City Council weekly bulletin for the week beginning Monday, April 30 published below.

Transportation

  • Cambridge Road: Work to build a new retaining wall and to reconstruct part of Cambridge Road continues.  The work is expected to take a further 2-3 weeks depending on weather.

  • Waitaha Road: Work continues.  Please expect delays.

  • Welcome Bay Road: The proposed closure of Welcome Bay Road to lay a new sewer pipe is being rescheduled.  Please watch the local paper and Our City Views for more information.

  • Ultrafast Broadband: Work to install Ultrafast Broadband is being done from 13th Avenue to 14th Avenue, Devonport Road, Fraser Street, and at the Mount in the industrial and residential areas.  Most of the work is being done off the road.  The Ultrafast Broadband project is a central government initiative. More information about the project is available at www.ultrafastbroadband.co.nz or call 0800 342 735.

  • Waterfront Car Park: Due to the redevelopment of the Waterfront, the Central and Southern Reclamation car parks that are accessed via Wharf Street are now closed permanently.  There will be no changes to the parking accessed via Dive Crescent.  The best alternative places to park are either the Spring Street or Elizabeth Street Parking Buildings or the parking area on the Northern Reclamation which is accessed off Dive Crescent.

Parks

  • Work commenced tomorrow on the Te Wati Reserve carpark in Te Hono St.

  • The Cherry Bay road at McLaren Falls Park has had an upgrade.  Plus some widening and more car park spaces at the roundabout.  And now is the time to come to the park to see the autumn colours.

City Waters

  • A water shutdown will affect three streets in Windermere in the early hours of 4 May. The affected streets are Windermere Drive, College Place and Lagoon Place.

  • The water shutdown will last for around 30 minutes some time between 1.30am and 3.00am on the 4 May. The shutdown is for water supply testing purposes. Please phone the Council for more information on 577 7000.

  • No reported sewer blockages were attended to this week.

  • Smoke testing inspections in CBD area will continue for one more week.  The Fire Department is aware of this testing activity but they do need to attend all notifications regardless as part of their policy.

next time you are sitting in traffic on Route K, think of the residents that are living around these works and have to put up with the noise and drone and vibrations of the machines all day and night.
